Disposal of unneeded or expired prescription drugs is one of the easy steps community members can take to address the opioid epidemic. There are two easy ways to dispose of prescription drugs that are supported by Buffalo State and the Center for Health and Social Research.
Each spring and fall, the Sustainability Council, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency and University Police, hold a drug drop off event as part of the National Take Back Initiative.
In 2016, the spring drug drop off event will take place on October 22 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm at Cleveland Circle on the Buffalo State Campus. Additional drop off locations are located throughout other Western New York Communities.
You don't have to wait for a bi-annual drug drop off event to dispose of unneeded or expired prescription drugs. Find the nearest dropbox in your community by visiting thepointny.org. The Point website is an online locator that assists in finding sharps and medication disposal locations and in identifying places to obtain clean syringes. The locator has been set up to help prevent disease transmission and to support our communities in being healthier. The Center for Health and Social Research was proud to develop The Point through funding from the Erie County Department of Health.
