The West Side Youth Development Coalition is the recipient of a Partnership for Success Grant from the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS).

We’re developing a capacity building plan for our coalition to help unite and reinforce efforts in managing the heroin and prescription opioid epidemic. Though a countywide problem, the effects of use and distribution weigh heavily on the West Side.

Some short term strategies that we have identified for our capacity building plan include:

• Holding a kick-off event upon strategy approval to introduce the project
• Developing a coalition website (we're making progress on this one)
• Creating an easy-to-use events calendar for events that promote our coalition’s mission
• Recruiting volunteers interested in working on this issue
• Partnering with the Erie County Department of Health on facilitating more NARCAN trainings in the neighborhood
• Creating culturally competent materials around the issue to reflect the diversityof the West Side
